Why does each category have different listening speeds?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The categories such as Eiken 3 and CEFR C1 correspond to the vocabulary knowledge of each student while listening speed corresponds to the sound recognition abilities. Each student has different listening skills based on their exposure to English speaking, so understanding this difference is critical to improving listening skills in English. Both of these aspects (knowledge and sound recognition) are important for comprehension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Native level English speakers stress and reduce sounds in words and sentences. For example, stress is applied to specific syllables in a single word (ed-a-MA<\/mark><\/strong>-me), and grammatical words are reduced in sentences which changes the speed of a speaker’s English (D’you<\/em> wanna<\/em> go<\/mark><\/strong> totha<\/em> market<\/mark><\/strong>?).
At 0.75x speed, speakers will separate and enunciate each syllable clearly without losing the integrity of speech. (Do you<\/strong> want<\/strong><\/mark> to go<\/mark><\/strong> to the market<\/mark><\/strong>?)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
